Infertility is the problem that refers to the biological inability of a man or a woman to conceive or reproduce. This also includes the inability of the couple to reproduce even after having regular unprotected sex.
In females, infertility is seen due to failure in obstruction of the fallopian tube, ovulation, infection, and inflammation in the uterus or due to some other disease. In males, infertility is due to a complete absence of sperm, a lower sperm count, or poor quality of sperm. And thus infertility treatment in males and females is done separately.
Infertility is grouped into two types
- Primary infertility—here the couple is not able to reproduce even after one year of unprotected intercourse.
- Secondary infertility—this is when the woman is not able to conceive after one or more pregnancies.
